What an amazing weekend! I can't even begin to express how awesome the Wildwood Revival really was. Imagine a beautiful farm full of lights, leather boots, and guitar picking ramblers. We met so many talented people both musicians and artists. The organizers of this festival really went all out, between the hay bale tables, delicious farm fresh foods, and extra blankets for warmth, there was everything you could ever need. Look out for the next one this summer and don't miss out.

Before I began Holdfast I worked at a native plant nursery. I loved it. Western North Carolina has so many plant treasures, large and small. Every month I am going to post a new plant we discover on our adventures. This is one of my late summer favorites. Commonly known as Lady's Tresses, this small orchid blooms in late summer and early fall in Western North Carolina. It is barely noticeable most of the year. It is commonly found in swamps, meadows, wet roadsides, and bogs. We saw this one on our canoe trip to Wolf Creek Lake.
"Many shade flowers are lacking in fragrance, and lady ’s tresses happily fills that void. Some gardeners describe the scent as vanilla spiked with jasmine, reminiscent of a lilac.
Lady’s tresses is a threatened or endangered native wildflower in some states, and gardeners shouldn’t collect species from the wild. Instead, purchase specimens from reputable nurseries."

Today I had the pleasure of hosting my first baby shower for my amazing friend Jane (the model all over the website). It was such a special day and we couldn't have had better weather. I printed these up and was super psyched on them. Hopefully this will be something we will have in the future, more little woodland babies.
Today I have been working on the flyer for our upcoming (in three months) Pop Up Shop. Thinking about the cooler weather in December has been helping me cope with the 80's we've been enjoying the past week. The flyer isn't finished and the vendors aren't final, but you get the gist. This is going to be a really great event. There will be bad holiday attire (bad sweaters. dresses, blazer, socks, & more), live music (including some holiday favorites), tons of local art, vintage treasures, jewelry, stationary, and furniture to shop from, food to eat, and drinks to drink (maybe even eggnog). So start planning ahead and mark your calendars.
I love the flea market. LOVE IT. So when we decided to make a few wooden canoe paddles for our adventures it was the first place we stopped to look for tools. Quality wood working tools will last a lifetime so finding 20 year old ones are sometimes better than cheap new ones.
Although we didn't find everything we needed, we did find a few gems. We also ended up grabbing a spoke shave from Asheville Hardware. They have a ton of awesome woodworking tools. We are so excited about this project. Check back for updates on our progress.
